| Rather than copy out thousands of lines of frequently asked questions etc, we have placed links on this page to pages in other websites that may be of interest. We have created sections on this page to split out the links into relevant areas of interest and hope that you find them useful. Should you discover a 'broken' link then please report it to us. The sections are: BIODIESEL INFORMATION SHEETS COMMERCIAL VEHICLE MANUFACTURER SPEC SHEETS BIODIESEL INFORMATION SHEETS This section contains links to the National Biodiesel Board in the USA. Their website has a wealth of information regarding Biodiesel, a selection of which follows. Some of the documents contain references that do not apply to the UK. For example, we have the BS EN14214 quality standard and the Americans have ASTM. The two standards are quite similar though. Where a topic in a document is irrelevant to the UK I have greyed it out in the lists below. B I O D I E S E L B A S I C S 1. Commonly asked questions (click here) This document covers the following questions, its a good place to start! * What is Biodiesel * Technical Definition * Is Biodiesel used as a pure fuel or is it blended with petroleum diesel * Is it approved for use in the US? * How do Biodiesel emissions compare to petroleum diesel * Can I use Biodiesel in my existing diesel engine * Can biodiesel help mitigate 'global warming' * Does Biodiesel take more energy to make than it gives back * Is Biodiesel better for human health than petroleum diesel * Does Biodiesel cost more than other alternative fuels * Do I need special storage facilities * Where can I purchase biodiesel 2. Myths and Facts (click here) This document addresses some common misconceptions around Biodiesel. Here is a list of the myths... the facts are in the document. * Biodiesel is an experimental fuel and has not been properly tested * Biodiesel does not perform as well as normal diesel * Biodiesel doesn't perform well in cold weather * Biodiesel causes filters to plug * A low-blend Biodiesel fuel will cost too much * Biodiesel causes degradation of engine gaskets and seals * No objective biodiesel fuel formulation standard exists * Biodiesel does not have sufficient shelf life * Engine warranty coverage would be at risk * The US lacks the infrastructure to prevent shortages of the product * There is no government program to support development of a biodiesel industry 3. Benefits of Biodiesel (click here) Topics in this document: * Environmental Benefits * Energy Security Benefits * Economic benefits * Quality benefits * EPAct Benefits E N V I R O N M E N T A L I S S U E S 1. VEHICLE MANUFACTURER BIODIESEL SPEC SHEETS This section contains links about vehicle specifications which we have obtained from the vehicle manufacturers. As this is a continual process, please let us know if you have a specific requirement, so that we can obtain it on your behalf, which will also benefit others. Many of our commercial customers are concerned that the use of Biodiesel invalidates the warranty of new vehicles. The truth is, that all warranties of vehicles do not cover items such as light bulbs, brake pads and fuel. If a vehicle fails because of bad fuel, such as water in Diesel or silicon in petrol (remeber the Tesco incident!), the warranty does not cover the repair. Biodiesel is no different. The bottom line therefore, is that warranties do not cover the fuel aspect, no matter where it was bought, or what it may consist off. Rest assured, the supply of biodiesel from TryBiodiesel is regularly analysed and monitored so there should be no real concerns. Please speak to us, if you still have any concerns regarding the use of biodiesel vs the warranty on a new vehicle.
